EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
The Nyela Foundation scholarship program provides gap scholarships to recipients who demonstrate a need for financial assistance in support of their education; up to US$4,000.00 in an academic year. Both traditional and non-traditional students who are accepted to, and plan to attend, post-secondary accredited educational programs are eligible. The submission deadline for the scholarship application is March 15th 2024 @ 11:59 P.M. every year with award announcements made by May 1st of the same year.

THE GIVEBACK PROGRAM
The Give Back Program is designed to allow the foundation's scholarship recipients a chance to make a positive impact on the most vulnerable in our society and fulfil the mission of the Nyela Foundation. The Nyela Foundation is guided by the belief that every life has equal value. The organization’s mission is to enable the development of individuals to lead productive lives. Its main focus is supporting access to opportunities so that individuals have a greater chance at success in school and in life. With that premise in mind, each scholar is asked to develop and execute a plan to make a positive impact by identifying and addressing a need in his/her communities during the holiday season. We cannot minimize what we can each do to make a positive impact in these somewhat perilous times. We also cannot minimize the lasting impact these actions may have on those the scholars reach through their plan.

COMING HOME
- A PATH OUT OF HOMELESSNESS
A Sunday Drive
One Sunday our family was driving home after visiting some of our properties in Baltimore. On one prominent street corner there were a number of homeless persons lying on makeshift cots and standing around small tents. Our then six-year-old daughter inquired rather alarmingly: “What are those people doing and why are they sleeping on the ground?” My husband and I explained the various reasons why someone might be homeless to include, mental illness, loss of income, medical issues, addiction and even personal choice. After taking it all in she simply said: “We have houses why can’t we let them stay there?” Ah, the honest and pure simplicity of a child’s mind. But her compassion inspired us to want to do more and so the foundation was started. Our daughter’s name is Nyela which means “One who will succeed.” The Nyela foundation is built on the ideologies that success in life comes from a solid foundation and making the best of valuable opportunities.
The Coming Home program is the foundation’s effort to provide a path out of homelessness. The foundation is surveying areas and locations for potential homes sites in the Baltimore, MD region. Once acquired, the foundation will rehabilitate these properties and provide them to organizations that can successfully operate a program bringing the homeless off the streets and providing them with the necessary tools and opportunities to lead successful and productive lives.
